Your donations make a difference.

  • All donations receive a tax deductible receipt.
  • All donations are allocated to our Growth Fund

  • Legacy Gifts are gratefully accepted:
  • What is legacy giving?

    • It is “planned giving” which involves designating a portion of the donor’s estate to a charitable organization. This act enriches the lives of those in need while allowing the donor to leave a lasting mark.
    • Legacy gifts are distributed after the donor has passed.
    • The gift can be made up of a specific dollar amount, a percentage of assets, or an item of value.  These are the 3 most common.
      • Can be made of residue of the estate. Residue of the estate is the combined value of all the assets belonging to the donor after debts have been paid (a percentage of the residue would go the charity of their choice).
      • Specific Gifts can be items of value such as vehicles, collectibles, or jewelry. Often, charities are able to sell these items at an auction and use the proceeds to fund initiatives.
      • Can be private company shares, land mineral rights, life insurance policies, Mutual Funds, RRSPs, Real Estate, Works of Art.
    • Legacy Gifts are often planned in advance, they can accrue significant value over the years. Aside from the increased value of legacy donations, they are also something the charity can rely on in the future as the donor has the option to notify the charity they’ve chosen to donate to in advance.

    Why?

    • Financial benefits to the donor’s estate:  the potential tax benefits. Donations can reduce the taxable amount of the estate, lessening the financial burden on the donor’s heirs. More assets are then available to causes donors are passionate about.
    • Gives donor sense of personal fulfillment, knowing they are helping make a difference. Choosing a charity that embodies the donor’s values and priorities. It’s a fulfilling way to continue supporting causes that matter to them.
    • Legacy gifts can benefit local organizations, strengthening community. Gifts can help sustain vital services that improve the quality of life for everyone.
    • Can deepen relationships with organizations. Many charities recognize and honor legacy donors – can offer donor opportunities to engage more deeply with their mission and work.
    • Gifts are a way of investing in and supporting future generations. Support can be offered over many years to come.
    • Legacy gifts allow the donor to have considerable flexibility. The donor can decide on the amount of the gift and specify how the gift should be used, ensuring it aligns with their charitable intentions.
    • Gifts can simplify the donor’s wishes when they pass.
    • Legacy gifts can encourage philanthropy in the donor’s family. It sets a powerful example of generosity and compassion.

How?  The creation of Legacy Gifts is highly specialized and requires Professional Advice.

    • Donor must consult with their financial and legal advisors when planning their estate.  They provide expert advice on the best ways to leave charitable gifts and ensure the will is legally sound. Professional guidance can help donor maximize the benefits of their donation.
    • Wishes should be documented in a Last Will and Testament.  A Gift Deed is also an option to be discussed with legal and financial advisors. (Deed specifies what the donor would like to leave behind to the charity of their choice and can be added as an attachment to their estate plans).
    • Donor should be strongly encouraged to discuss legacy plans with the executor of their estate, attorney, financial planner, representative from charity, and family members/friends.
